The Google Nexus One has been officially announced, ending weeks of rumors and speculation. This Android 2.1-powered smartphone has been designed around a large, high-resolution, AM-OLED screen, but also offers a range of other features, including a 1 GHz processor.This is the first smartphone to be sold under the Google brand. Other Android-based models have said they offered “the Google experience” and have had Google logo on them, but these all were sold under another company’s name — T-Mobile G1, Samsung Moment, etc. The Nexus One, on the other hand, has no other company’s name on it but Google’s.This smartphone has a tablet shape with a 3.7-inch, WVGA, AM-OLED display and a trackball. An LED under the trackball can change colors to notify users of different events. It runs Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and offers 512 MB RAM. It comes with a 4 GB microSD card, and users have the option to expand this up to 32 GB. The new version of Android offers features like more homescreens with animated backgrounds, and enhanced weather and news widgets. It also offers speech-to-text, allowing users to enter text into any application with just their voice.At launch, the gPhone, as it’s sometimes called, fully supports only T-Mobile’s network, including its 3G service. However, support for additional carriers will be added in the next few months.The Nexus One also includes Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with stereo support.In addition, this smartphone has a 5 MPx camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 3.5 mm headset jack, a GPS receiver, accelerometer, and digital compass.The outer casing is 4.7 inches tall, 2.3 inches wide, and 0.5 inches thick (119 mm x 59 mm by 12 mm). It weighs in at 4.6 oz. (130 g).Users will have the option to have a personal message engraved on the back.” via brighthand.com
