Which ones in the following considered bad practice? why? and is that always bad? (i.e. newer technology don’t suffer that problem, only in certain conditions, etc)

1. Leaving PDA or cellphone charged on the desk whenever it is not used. (this is bad but not for my Palm Tungsten E2 and others with similar technology, and the battery has proved that it is still OK

for 5 years. Even the manual says this is recommended, like there is no ‘overcharge’.) and, how about this on laptop batteries?
2. Always putting laptop’s battery off whenever possible (rely on external power) and store the battery (use only for mobile needs).
3. Detaching laptop’s battery while still having the laptop’s external power plugged in, during turned off, standby, or even turned on state.
4. Charging laptop battery even it still has power (>40%) to ensure no power shortage during mobile.
5. Turning on laptop while it is still being charged (dude most people here say this is very bad practice). They say we have to wait until fully charged, pull off adapter, and turn on the laptop.
