Resolved Question: What is the difference between a “locked” cell phone, and an “unlocked” cell phone?
An electronics store threw away several cell phones and a PDA. One of the cell phones works, but is apparently “locked” I want to use it, but is there anyway to use it? It would be great if I didn’t have to purchase a phone. I have never owned a cell phone. Can I contact the carrier of the phone and arrange for a contract, even though I didn’t buy the phone? But what I would like to do is buy minutes, but I have been told by one person that the phone is “locked” and buying minutes will be a waste of money.
I am really confused by the cell phone rules. Any help appreciated.

Voting Question: PDA-Phone WM6 and higher: What is a good alternative for MS-Reader?
MS-Reader used to work great for me, but now that my phone has Windows Mobile 6.1 (and possibly soon 6.5), it doesn’t work properly any more. Microsoft stopped the development, hence the eBooks in .lit format are doomed. I would like to know if there is a usable alternative. PDFs are often hard to read due to fixed page-sizes. There is no word-wrapping/resizing version (as far as I know) that makes pdfs easier to read on a small screen.
I prefer to read a lot of books on my phone, since it’s easier to carry around and wherever I have to wait for a while, I read. ![]()
And I forgot to mention a bookmark functionality, it’s an absolute needed feature. ![]()
Adobe Reader for PPC 2.0 is from 2004, it lacks bookmark functionality (which I can’t work without) and the tagging seems to unable to understand certain documents.
Open Question: I’m looking for a T-Mobile phone with pda, mp3, camera, and full hidden keypad.?
My husband plans to buy me a new phone for Christmas because I’m still using the Samsung SGH-X495, which has no camera, music, etc. – I’ve had it since 2005 and it’s been a rock! I’m replacing it because the battery is finally going bad and I want to take the opportunity to upgrade. I don’t have an internet access or texting plan, so I don’t really care about that, but I really want a good pda (so I don’t have to use my paper day planner anymore). I’d like to combine a music player and camera as well, so I have one convenient device. I really hate having to use 1 key for multiple letters, so I’d prefer a phone with a full letter keypad that slides out or flips open to avoid having keys pressed while in my pocket. Lots of memory is always a plus, but price is important as well. If you know of anything that fits these characteristics and has gotten good reviews, please pass it along! Thanks!

“Dell today confirmed plans to enter the smart phone business and announced partnerships with China Mobile and Claro. Its first smartphone is the Mini 3, which will be available by end of this month.“Our entry into the smart phone category is a logical extension of Dell’s consumer product evolution over the past two years,” said Ron Garriques, President, Dell Global Consumer Group. “We are developing smaller and smarter mobile products that enable our customers to take their internet experience out of the home and do the things they want to do whenever and wherever they want.“The initial Mini 3 smart phones are designed around the Android platform to best deliver power, flexibility and customization opportunities for both users and carriers.” via slashphone.com
