Open Question: Do you have to have a data plan to buy a PDA from ATT&T or Sprint?

My Sprint contract runs up in about a month and I want to take advantage of the rebate for signing a new contract. I want to buy a smartphone (either an iPhone or probably a Blackberry) but don’t want to pay for a data plan until the beginning of next year (I’ll be moving soon and want to save as much as I can until I settle down).

I’ve heard though that you can’t buy or use a smartphone without purchasing a data plan as well. Is that true? If it is I’ll probably buy the smartphone anyways and just start paying the data plan right away but I’d rather wait if that’s an option.

Resolved Question: Has anyone used Amodat remote CRM software?

We are thinking about purchasing this application, and just wondered if there were any people/businesses out there who were already using the software.
Does it fulfil all your requirements?
Do you have a large number of skus? (we have over 3,000)
What hardware are you working on – PDA’s, smartphones or laptops?

THANKS
