Nokia N900 Firmware v1.2009.42.11 Update
“The Nokia N900 has received the first public update taking the device to firmware version v1.2009.42.11. Now, this may seem odd for a handset that isn’t even in stores yet but the update effects those devices sent out early. Find out more about the Nokia N900 Firmware v1.2009.42.11 update after the jump…The Nokia N900 is a 3.5-inch smartphone with touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard that uses the Maemo 5 operating system, the first such Nokia device to use this version of the OS.The Nokia N900 Firmware v1.2009.42.11 update apparently weighs in at a whopping 165MB and is only available via Nokia Software Updater (NSU), which in our mind is the only way to share updates of this size. The guys over at nokiaexperts who already have a sample Nokia N900 have pointed out that future updates should at least offer the option of Over The Air (OTA) updates. As for the Nokia N900 Firmware v1.2009.42.11 update itself, it seems that after a slight rocky start the update has improved the stability of the device, as well as helped add longer battery life to the system. To carry out the update, you’ll need to sync your Nokia N900 and check the Nokia Software Updater to see if your factory release is covered by the update. Before carrying out any update it’s worth making a backup of your Nokia N900, just to be on the safe side.” via noknok.tv

Open Question: Which Verizon phone is better for me? (With links)?
I like phones that slide rather than flip, both of these phones are touchscreen. my previous phone was the Sony Ericsson w580i from at&t. i need a lot of memory on my phone as well as the ability for it to play music and videos. the w580i was perfect for this. I am getting a new phone in about two weeks and im trying to figure out whether i should get the Motorola Droid or the new Verizon Chocolate TOUCH PDA/Smartphone.
The link for the Chocolate is here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5071&zipcode=07920

Open Question: Are Tablet PCs The Future Of Computing?
Currently reading a Mike Meyers chapter on portable computing for A+Certification Studies (second read-through!) and this has really caught my eye. So love the idea of a laptop computer with a screen that rotates 180 degrees and can be used flat with a stylus – taking advantage of handwriting/speech recognition, plus software for annotating documents with stylus (Digital Ink) and more software to create a virtual dryboard for presentations, so everything is preserved and can be copied out later.
I’ve played with someone’s PDA a while back and that was Okay in it’s way, though a bit limited. This is one of those few times I look at something though and think, “That’s So Cool!!” and “I Want One!!”.
Has anyone here got one of these and if so, how do you make use of it? Also, any other folk like to add their suggestions for what I should acquire for myself if I ever find myself in the situation of having too much money – albeit unlikely!! Just been reading about “jailbreaking” iPhones resulting in first iPhones virus. Really want to get qualified now but in the meantime am just fascinated by all that’s going on out there.
Simon: Advantage as described is that you can input data easily whilst you are walking (eg: Creating a stores inventory), plus they only weigh in at 4lbs (one-quarter of a stone) as they don’t have optical drives, so they wouldn’t be that heavy to carry around and they’d be laid flat like a clipboard (albeit a fairly big clipboard). Plus my book is going to be a little dated now as it was written 2007 and in two years, the technology could have been made more lightweight.
Oh, Forgot – you can also use on on-screen keyboard with your stylus as another option.
Anyway, have you ever actually used one?
…and if the stylus writes like a pen and is reproduced instantly on the screen, then it Shouldn’t be faster to type unless you’re a really fast touch typist. Plus, how are you going to type whilst walking?
As for the back issue: if you were in a warehouse situation, you could surely hook this up at the right height for working on some sort of cart – even a shopping trolley and let it take the strain, then all you have to do is push the trolley/cart.
First Images and Details of the Motorola Motus Come to Light
“Specifications and an image of what will apparently be Motorola’s third Android-powered smartphone have leaked out. This device will supposedly have much in common with the Motorola Cliq, but with an unusual design. Unconfirmed reports say the Motorola Motus will have a physical keyboard, but won’t be a slider or clamshell. Instead, will have a reverse flip keyboard, so that when this model is closed it’s keyboard is on the back. The specification list that has leaked out shows that this smartphone will have a 3.1-inch HVGA (320 x 480) touchscreen, and run Android 1.5 with Motorola’s Blur software that gives easy access to social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter. It’s not clear what wireless carrier will offer the Motorola Motus, as it will have support for both AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s 3G networks. Verizon and Sprint are apparently out of the running, though. The Motus will allegedly be based on a 528 MHz processor from Qualcomm, and have 256 MB of RAM.It will supposedly have a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.According to a timetable that leaked out of Motorola, this smartphone is going to be released in the first quarter of 2010.” via brighthand.com
