Open Question: How can i connect my ipod, PDA, phone and laptop to a wifi network without a router ?

Okay, so I’ve got an ipod touch a Nokia n95 8gb a palm-one LifeDrive and a Nintendo ds, i want to connect them to the internet using WiFi however before buying a router i want to look at some cheaper alternatives…

I’ve seen these things on eBay called WiFi adapters, apparently they can create a WiFi network that i can use with game consoles ? but will that network work with my phone , Ipod and PDA ?
