Jeff Han is a research scientist for New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Here, he demonstrates—for the first time publicly—his intuitive, "interface-free," touch-driven computer screen, which can be manipulated intuitively with the fingertips, and responds to varying levels of pressure.

Firstly, this is not new at all, and was not in need of yet another repost... Secondly, the main thing in Minority Report isn't the computer interface, but the precogs! Thirdly, a closer technology to the computer interface in Minority Report is seen in G-Speak (watch?v=dyMVZqJk8s4)

as i stated above, i agree with you, but PS3 already has this type of technology built into it for the PlaystationEye, where you dont have to touch or wear anything, just turn on the camera and it picks up specific motions from even specific parts or points on the body, so yes distance is key, and SONY obviously knew to stick with the "no interface" approach, currently this tech is only used for games on Ps3 but I can gaurantee SONY will break the mold on this one

notice he mentioned "entertainment aps", well of course my PS3 utilizes this type of technology for just that, It uses the PlaystationEye, the only real difference is that on PS3 you dont have to touch ANYTHING to use this technology, the camera picks up on body and limb motions even from specific points like fingers or wrists, or whatever is the apropriate motion medium for the particular game or aplication, personally i would rather not touch my screen, it would get dirty

where can I get some of that software? U can just get a power glove to interact with it, you dont need the gel screen unless ur doing pressure sensitive activities.

This is an amazing technology for those who need to stand right next to their large screens. At some point a person will want to interact in the same way but from a distance without having to touch the screen. This is possible with a small wrist device called LtWv that uses light to scan hand & finger motion.Doubt this will get posted but thought I'd try again... |
