Using http://youtube.com/watch?v=67c... for reference (sorry for poor quality!), compare terminals and other landmarks to see how quick the acceleration and how steep the takeoff were. Even with the displaced threshold, rotating at the piano keys is rare! United 757 to Denver.

They power down to keep a Speed of 250KTS Below 10,000FT and to maintain he's initial altitude which is 5000Ft and also if they keep a thrust of 100% more than a couple of minutes they can overheat the engines and can turn on fire
wlewis06 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Probably to keep the speed under 250kts below 10,000 feet
outwestlawns (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yeah its not recomended that you run engines on full thrust for more than 2 minutes.

Sounds like they powered down a bit at around1:17

the 757 does have a great take off. I had a very steep take off in an AA 757 out of DFW last year .I love it !!!!!!!. My steepest fastest take off of all was in a L-1011-500. Also a very powerful jet. To bad they have all been phased out from the major carriers.

Wow! I've never taken off that steep from here. You were nearly off the ground at the landing aiming point! I bet that must have felt weird climbing so steeply. I was flying back home (to San Diego!) from Chicago Midway on a 737-700, and it did a similar thing where they raised the power very high while taking off. But after a minute or so of climbing they reduced power significantly and leveled off for a while, then went back to climb. Scared me for a sec... I've never done that before!

Wow....impressive high powered performance of the 757. I have taken many 757 flights, the most memorable takeoff was out of Vail Colorado in the middle of Winter. A high powered "lift off" over the high snow covered mountains and peaks.

I've flown on Beechcraft Bonanza, Cessna 172, C-17, 737-300, 737-800, MD-80, A320, A321, A340...But I REALLY want to fly on the 757...My dad flew it (and the 767) at TWA for over 3000 hrs and he loved the 757. So you guys think its worth it? :)
